Keeping Medina County Informed
Brianna J. Laybourn
I hold a Master of the Arts in Popular Culture and Theology.
My undergraduate degree is in Theater. Though I did not follow in my mother’s footsteps pursuing a law degree being raised by a lawyer instilled respect and fascination with the Justice system.

While obtaining my Master’s from Fuller Seminary I served on a jury in the Los Angeles Supreme Court (equivalent to the Common Pleas court). This experience gave me the foundation for the Seminars I teach and my consultations with law firms. In the jury room, a place no lawyer or judge can go, the ideals and limitations of twelve (eight in civil) people sitting in judgment on a fellow being plays out. People’s biases, beliefs, misconceptions, and earnest desire for justice collide to create a verdict. I found for jurors sitting on a jury is equally an emotional and conscience driven experience. Therefore, I came up with the idea of being a bridge between every day citizens observing the Justice system and professionals within the Justice System. I lived with a lawyer and was immersed in the culture of the law. This grants me the ability to be an interpreter between the lawyer and the public. How does a lawyer lessen the gap between them and the jury or between them and their client? How does the public perceive the profession of lawyer? How does the public perceive the Justice System? What are the misconceptions people hold about lawyers and the Justice System? These are the questions I strive to answer and discuss with those in the legal profession.

I am excited to now be associated with Medina County News, because the public will be given a greater understanding of the legal system through local court news. Inside the Court gives people the opportunity to observe the process of justice. Medina County News allows people a behind the scenes knowledge of the journey of law. The system of justice involves everyday citizens. An appreciation for the Justice System is within the mission of Medina County News.
